    Jeanette (lawyer, adviser) is an expert on environmental law matters and advises large industrial and investment companies on environmental law matters, including in the areas of waste and energy transition since 1991. Jeanette has a special focus on waste management, circular economy, and energy transition, areas which will play a significant role in the practice going forward.

    Pragmatic. Solution-oriented. Committed.

    Before joining Van Doorne, Jeanette worked for several environment consultancy companies as well as Houthoff and her own law firm Ozinga Advocaten. She obtained her law degree at the University of Groningen.

    Blog:The Omgevingswet

    With the Omgevingswet (Environmental and Planning Act/EPA), which will perhaps enter into force on January 1, 2023, the concept of 'establishment' will be abandoned. This concept is currently still used as the mainstay of regulation. Calculations are often made from the boundaries of the establishment in order to map out the consequences for the environment, and within the establishment, rules and supervision apply to all activities.

    Some revision of EU waste legislation

    The EU legislator is working on the amendment of two important pieces of legislation on the management of waste:  the Waste Shipment Regulation (hereafter: the "WSR"), and; the Waste Framework Directive (the "WFD").  The WSR prescribes rules and procedures for the transboundary transport of waste. Its goal is to manage and dispose (hazardous) waste in a way that is environmentally sustainable.  The WFD provides rules on waste management and establishes a waste hierarchy which favours prevention of waste over other measures such as preparation for re-use, recycling and, ultimately, disposal. In the Netherlands, the WFD has been implemented in the Environmental Management Act (Wet milieubeheer).  In this blog, we briefly discuss the amendments that the EU legislator is working on, and when we can expect them.
