Van Doorne provides ‘top-notch arbitration expertise’, the practice going from strength to strength following last year’s arrival of widely-respected Rogier Schellaars and his team. Schellaars is noted for his ‘down-to-earth manner’ in explaining complex issues, and leads the team alongside ‘highly-skilled‘ Bas van Zelst. Together, they are ‘well-connected in the arbitration community’. The team has secured multiple high-value awards on behalf of clients in international commercial and investment matters and in domestic arbitrations.
Dedicated Arbitration Team for (Co-)Counsel and Arbitrator Assistance
The focus is on commercial and investment arbitration work, be it under the rules of the NAI or other (inter)national institutes (LCIA, ICC and UNCITRAL, among many others). Prof. Bas van Zelst combines his counsel/arbitrator work with his work as chair of Dispute Resolution and Arbitration at Maastricht University.
Rogier Schellaars is, inter alia, a member of the ICC Court of Arbitration and recognised for his counsel-work in tier 1 of Chambers Global.
The team is bi-lingual English-Dutch and versed in both civil law and common law concepts and procedure. Rogier holds a full law degree from Queen Mary College and Leiden University. Bas obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam in 2008. He was a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School (2006/2007) and a visiting professor at the University of British Colombia (Canada, 2017).
