Matthijs is a partner in our Corporate/M&A practice. He has a broad Dutch and international private M&A practice. Matthijs specializes in Dutch and cross-border M&A, private equity transactions, venture capital investments, due diligence investigations, carve-out situations, shareholder agreements, joint ventures, Warranty & Indemnity (W&I) insurance, and corporate governance related matters. He also advises management teams in buy-outs. His M&A work spans various sectors, including technology, telecom, media, transport/logistics, energy, retail, industrials and food related commodities.
Before joining Van Doorne, Matthijs spent 12 years in the Corporate/M&A practice at Allen & Overy (currently named A&O Shearman) and 8 years as an M&A partner at HVG Law. Matthijs achieved remarkable milestones, including advising on M&A transactions that were nominated for Best Deal 2021 and 2022 at the prestigious annual Dutch M&A Awards. He advised Currence iDEAL on the sale of payment platform iDEAL by ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank to European Payments Initiative (EPI), which transaction won the award for Best M&A Deal 2023 (mid cap).
Matthijs graduated from Utrecht University with an LL.M. in Dutch Law in 2004 and from Maastricht University with an MSc in International Business Studies in 2002. He has been admitted to the Netherlands Bar Association (Nederlandse Orde van Advocaten) in Amsterdam since 2004.
