Bas van Zelst focuses exclusively on conducting and advising on national and international arbitration and related proceedings before the national courts. He has particular expertise in construction-law arbitration proceedings and in investment arbitration-related proceedings. In addition, Bas acts in (cross-border) attachment and enforcement proceedings. Bas was involved in (advising on) arbitration proceedings under the ICC, NAI, LCIA, UNCITRAL and DIS arbitration rules.

In addition to being a partner in Van Doorne’s arbitration practice, Bas is a professor of Dispute Resolution & Arbitration at Maastricht University. Bas is also a CEDR-accredited mediator.

Bas obtained his doctorate with a dissertation on the creation of European private law. In 2006 and 2007, he was a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School. In 2017, Bas was a visiting professor at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Bas is on the editorial team of the Arbitration Journal.
