Zuidas Gender Equality Collective: Working together towards gender equality in the legal profession

6 maart 2026

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2026, four leading law firms in the Netherlands – Baker McKenzie, Loyens & Loeff, NautaDutilh, and Van Doorne – are joining forces in a shared initiative: the Zuidas Gender Equality Collective. The collective brings together professionals from across firms to highlight the people and everyday actions that contribute to greater gender equality in the legal sector.

The Zuidas Gender Equality Collective is a collaborative initiative that focuses on people and everyday practice. Rather than presenting gender equality as something already achieved, the campaign takes an honest and realistic approach: it is a work in progress. At a time when conversations about equality in the legal profession are becoming more nuanced and more complex, the Collective aims to create space for reflection rather than easy conclusions. This campaign therefore focuses not on celebration alone, but on visibility, reflection, and collective responsibility.

The campaign speaks to legal professionals at all stages of their careers, as well as to organisations that recognise their role in shaping a more inclusive profession. Across the profession, many small actions already contribute to meaningful change. These often go unnoticed: mentoring a colleague, challenging assumptions in a meeting, creating space for different voices, or supporting alternative career paths. The Collective was created to make these contributions visible, and to show that progress is built through consistency rather than single moments.

What makes this initiative distinctive is its cross-firm nature. By working together, the participating firms underline that gender equality is not a competitive issue or a question of individual positioning. It is a shared responsibility, shaped by common challenges and strengthened through collaboration. The name “Collective” reflects that belief: lasting change happens when individual efforts add up.

At the heart of the campaign are a series of shared stories. Professionals from all four firms are presented together, reflecting on what motivates them, what they do in their day-to-day work, and how they see the future of the profession. Placing these voices side by side highlights both similarities and differences and shows how diverse experiences can reinforce one another when there is a common goal.

The Zuidas Gender Equality Collective is intended as more than a moment around 8 March. It marks the beginning of an ongoing conversation and collaboration, with room to grow and evolve over time. Above all, it is rooted in the idea that change happens through people – and that by recognising and sharing what is already happening, the profession can continue to move forward together.

The stories of the Zuidas Gender Equality Collective will be shared across the participating firms’ platforms in the coming period, offering different perspectives on how everyday actions can shape a more equal legal profession. By sharing these stories, the Collective invites others in the profession to reflect on their own role in shaping a more equal future.

The initiative is jointly developed and presented by the participating firms, with equal visibility and shared ownership.
