Biography
Remco M.R. van Leeuwen joined the legal team of Van Doorne in 1994; he has been a partner since 2002 and is responsible for our Intellectual Property group. Remco specializes in the protection, use and enforcement of intellectual property rights. His work comprises both consultancy and litigation in respect of trademark law, design law and copyright law. He is also active in the fields of advertising law, media and entertainment law, restrictive trade practices unfair competition and liability law. He has developed a special interest in internet-related cases. Remco has ample experience with seizure procedures, injunctions and proceedings on the merits before the Dutch courts, and before self-regulating bodies. His clients include leading and innovative domestic and international businesses. During secondments with his clients, he gained commercial experience and obtained a clear insight into the force of legal teams, in particular where it concerns the economic implications of intellectual property rights and legal actions against their infringement. From 1999 to 2001, Remco was a member of the Appeal Board of the Dutch Internet Domain Registration Foundation (College van Beroep van de Stichting Internet Domeinregistratie Nederland or SIDN)). Under the SIDN Rules and Regulations, which took effect on 1 April 1999 and had legal force until 15 November 2000, this Board heard more than one hundred disputes regarding domain names. These days, he is an arbitrator for the World Intellectual Property Organization in .nl-domain-name disputes and has a seat on a UDRP panel. He has joined several national and international expert associations and has published articles on various subjects in the realm of intellectual property. He regularly lectures at conferences and client seminars.
Remco had been recommended by several legal counsel handbooks for his expertise in Intellectual Property (Legal 500 2007 and Chambers and Partners Europe 2007).
